Karin Weerheijm
Dr Weerheijm is a paediatric dentist registered by the Dutch Dental Association of Children Dentistry (NVvK) and a full member of the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (EAPD).
She graduated in 1984 at the Free University (Amsterdam) and worked at the paediatric department of this university (later Academisch Centrum Tandheelkunde Amsterdam, ACTA) till June 2003. Beside student (undergraduate and postdoc) teaching she was involved in research projects concerning diagnosis of occlusal caries en hidden caries. In 1993 she defended her PhD thesis about hidden caries. The other main research area’s she worked in were early childhood caries and Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (MIH). At the moment she is member of the Paediatric REsearch Project (PREP) and involved in research concerning RET, vitamin D and MIH. National and international lectures on these subjects are given.
Since her graduation she worked till January 1994 at the Special Dental Care Centre (SBT) at the University and after 1994 in her own secondary dental care clinic in Amsterdam.
Dr Weerheijm is or was member/chair of various national and international Dental committees regarding Paediatric Dentistry, director of the Dutch Dental Journal (NTvT), assistant editor of European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry and author of more than 150 dental manuscripts in Journals and books.
